Our Engagement Story

  • First Big Bear Adventure

    Sept 4, 2016

Our Adventure Jar trip to Big Bear. It was Nathaniel's first time there, and he loved it. We wanted to go star-gazing, but it was too cold.

  • Nathaniel Asks Kaitlin's Dad for Blessing

    May 9, 2019

Kaitlin, Barry, and Nathaniel spend a week campining in Yosemite. Kaitlin does not bring a properly rated sleeping bag and takes Nathaniel's, against his will :). Nathaniel constructs a village out of tarps and ropes, along with a solar shower. Nathaniel asks for Barry's blessing and he replies, "Did you think I would say no?"

  • Jeep Adventure in Borrego

    Aug 8, 2019

Ever since our Cabo trip, we've been pretty hooked on off-roading. Our original plan was to jeep up to Big Bear but we weren't able to fit it in this weekend. We went to Borrego instead. This is when Nathaniel knew he wanted to try incorporating Jeeping into his proposal idea.

  • Engagement Trip

    Sept 6, 2019

Finally, we were able to make our second Big Bear Trip happen! Nathaniel surprised Kaitlin with a Jeep rock crawling tour to the top of the mountain. He wanted to propose on the mountain, but an awkward famly ruined the vibe, so Nathaniel knew he'd have to go to Plan B.

  • We're Engaged

    Sept. 7, 2019

After a failed proposal attempt at the top of Big Bear, Nathaniel's plan B involved star gazing at night on a dock. As he was getting ready to propose, a family nearby lost their dog and were yelling (more like screaming) the dog's name. The mood was ruined, so Nathaniel went to help the family look for the dog so he could try to salvage the moment and propose. Well, 45 minutes later, Nathaniel had trudged through the murky water and unfortunately found the dog in a less-than-desirable state. Kaitlin was waiting on the doc this whole time, and when she found out what happened, she wanted to leave the location immediately. Nate quickly resorts to Proposal Plan C and suggests they go take some fun night photos near Boulder Bay. Kaitlin reluctantly agrees. In the middle of taking photos, Nathaniel finally proposes, and Kaitlin says yes!

  • Original Wedding Date Postponed

    June 12, 2020

In March 2020, the world shut down. What should have lasted 2 weeks ended up lasting over a year. Nathaniel and Kaitlin made the hard decision to postpone their original wedding date of June 12, 2020. While they were sad to push the date, they knew that they ultimately wanted to be able to celebrate with everyone, even if that meant waiting for an unknown amount of time. As you all know, they officially rescheduled to November 5, 2021!

Accomodations

We really hope you will be able to take the long weekend to celebrate with us. We highly recommend Welk Resorts in Escondido, CA. They are located just off the I-15 and are the closest major hotel to the venue.

Other nearby hotels include the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Oceanside, Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego Oceanside, or the Holiday Inn Oceanside Camp Pendleton Area. These are located closer to the ocean if you prefer to be near the water!

Frequently Asked Questions

What COVID guidelines should I be aware of?

We are asking all guests and vendors to please be vaccinated before attending the wedding. If vaccination is not possible (and we understand it may not be), please plan to take a COVID test 24-48 hours prior to our wedding. We have guests traveling from all over, along with older family members, so keeping everyone safe and healthy is very important to us! We ask that if you are feeling sick or have flu-like symptoms, you please refrain from attending (even though we would love to see you!).

Is your venue indoors or outdoors?

Quail Haven Farms is a fully outdoor venue. You are welcome to wear a mask, though they are not required.

What type of wedding attire is recommended?

Cocktail or semi-formal attire is recommended. It may get chilly in the evenings, so bring something to keep you warm.

Are kids allowed at the wedding?

While we'd love to see all of your kids at the wedding, this is an adults only event. Please plan accordingly!

What time does the reception go until?

Due to the noise ordinance in the area, the reception goes until 9:30pm.

Will there be vegetarian options served at dinner?

Our caterer, SD Tacos, will be providing non-meat options during dinner!

City Guide

Below you will find some of our favorite things to do in San Diego! If you spend the weekend in SD, we highly recommend these.

Fresh Seafood at Blue Water

Fresh is the only way to describe the morning catch at Blue Water. Some of our favorites are the sesame crusted seared ahi and the snapper fish tacos. They are also an actual seafood market and will cook you anything in the case custom.

Sushi at Azuki

A perfect mix of traditional and modern sushi techniques on a swanky color changing vodka bar. Always always sit at the bar if you can for personal sushi chef service.

Fancy Faire at Paon

French provencal style foods. We love them for their use of game meats like pheasant, boar, and venison. A must try is their mint ice cream, one taste and you will never be able to go back to the store bought stuff.

Cocktails at Raised by Wolves

Tucked behind the fireplace in the respected purveyor of fine spirits. Raised by Wolves is one of San Diego's top speakeasies. Enjoy classic cocktails in style.

Off-Roading

Like hiking from the comfort of your car. There is a sense of exploration and comfort with off-roading in San Diego that can only be described as massively enjoyable.

Boating

One of the best ways to enjoy San Diego is from the water. With a powerboat it is easy to drive and fast enough to put some wind in your hair. We recommend the Vectra or the Sylvan.

Scooters

Gone are the good ol days in the wild west of scooters. Regulations and restrictions are definitely on the rise. Definitely try it out if you haven't before.
